I am writing to share with you that my service as dean of the Geisel School of Medicine will conclude at the end of my current appointment term in June 2025. Dartmouth Provost David Kotz is preparing to launch a national search this fall for the next dean of our school.
It has been my honor to serve as dean of our school for the past decade and to work with such a smart, committed, and caring community of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and supporters.
From my unique position, I’ve had a front row seat for everything that we do, and day in, day out it’s been a privilege to witness your unwavering support of our missions of education, research, and patient care. The commitment of our faculty and staff to ensure the best possible education for our students is truly inspiring, and I will always believe that we provide the best education in the country. Your dedication to expanding the horizons of biology, medicine, and public health through discovery science and clinical and translational science is amazing and impacts the world in ways that far exceed the scale of our small school. And the kindness, expertise, and attention that you give to patient care, a quality I have personally benefited from, is second to none.
Our students and trainees are a great source of inspiration to me, and I feel good knowing that our collective future is in the hands of such capable and compassionate individuals.
I am truly grateful for everything that each of you does to help make our school and our community unique and successful.
As an essential part of the fabric of our broader institutions (Dartmouth and Dartmouth Health) we enrich this academic and local community immensely. I would encourage each of you to reflect on our many strengths and accomplishments as we prepare for an even brighter future for our school through the leadership of a new dean. There is much to do during this academic year, and I will be focused on preparing a warm and supportive handoff.
With eternal gratitude,
Duane.
